Where My Pixies At?

"The hair... They say the hair is everything, you know. Have you ever buried your nose in a mountain of curls, and just wanted to go to sleep forever?"

Lt. Col. Frank Slade in Scent of a Woman (1992)

These are four of my favourite film stars. What do they have in common?

Pixie Ellen Page
Ellen Page.

I first encountered her... in X-Men: The Last Stand (or X-Men 3). She was Kitty Pryde.
I fell in love with her... when she cut Patrick Wilson's balls off in the 2005 psychological thriller Hard Candy, a film about what would happen if a 14-year-old psychopath meets a paedophile.

Pixie Audrey Tautau
Audrey Tautou.

I first encountered her... as the titular protagonist of Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amélie Poulain (or simply Amélie, a 2001 French rom-com set in whimsical indie Paris).
I fell in love with her... in that same film, when I first saw her saucer-eyed, tight-lipped mischievous smile.

Emily Browning
Emily Browning.

I first encountered her... as 14-year-old Violet Baudelaire in the film adaptation of Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events.
I fell in love with her... as soon as I found out she was actually 16 years old at the time and it's not at all creepy for me to profess my drippy crush on her. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Pixie Carey Mulligan
Carey Mulligan.

I first encountered her... in her Academy award nominated role as a 16-year-old schoolgirl caught in an affair with an older man in 2009's An Education.
I fell in love with her... the moment I saw her adorable boy cut in Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps last year - a movie I loathed, by the way.

I'm not merely speaking about their talents in acting when I named them my favourite actresses - I'm also taking into account their physical appeal. And I'll gladly watch any film that has any one of their names attached to it, no matter the reviews. I suppose you can describe all four of them as having elfin or impish features, but Emily Browning seems to have more of a gnomish disposition going on. It's probably because of her accent. The Australian accent has a sort of stocky stoutness to it which immediately conjures up manly images of kangaroo kickboxing and barechested croc-wrestling in my head. Subtracted some daintiness from her, it did.

Most importantly, all four of them look extra fetching wearing a boy or pixie cut! I can't explain it - I just have a crazy yen for hair like that, particularly if raven or brunette. If only the Long-Suffering Girlfriend™ can be so obliging...

Somehow, I never did find generically hot actresses like Angelina Jolie or Megan Fox to be too attractive to me (you won't believe the amount of crap I got from the guys for daring to be unimpressed with the former Transformers star). While I think I sort of understand why so many men consider them to be sex symbols, I've always been more into the cute, petite ones - with the exception of the lascivious, well-chested Miss Scarlett Johansson, of course. She's everyone's exception. My girlfriend even admitted that she would go lesbian for her.

So, who are your favourite celebrities and why? And what do you find irresistible?

P.S. Natalie Portman nearly made my list, especially after Black Swan. It was my favourite film of 2010.

i like carrey mulligan a lot.

surprisingly, the guys here don't find megan fox all that hot. they say she's alright, or some even say ugly. nor angelina jolie. i think guys here have more taste. xD

btw, i made an alternate title sequence for Hard Candy. i'm thinking of making a new youtube account and uploading it there. what chu think?

I've never been brave enough to attempt that hairstyle. Honestly, I think it's hard to attract a guy with that hair too, of course you and maybe less than 5% of the male population being the exception. Let's just say the odds wouldn't be in my favour?

awwh.. if you have a body like rain's, i'll consider it :3 natalie portman's on my list for determination! she was so thin for the movie >_<

I don't think Megan Fox is hot either >.< She may have a bod, but that's about it. Even then.....nehhhh xD

Ooh, Scarlett Johanssen? Definitely ! I would go lesbian too ! Mannn, when I saw her in The Iron Man, in that skin-tight leather suit and fiery red hair....whoohooo~ :P

If you really like boy-cut/pixie hair, why not check out Emma Watson in her current hairstyle? :P Will she get on your list?

For me, on hotness alone? Taylor Lautner. Zac Efron. I think it's the washboard abs *drools*

I've always like lean guys, and somehow it's carried over to my aesthetic standards for girls... I don't like too much booty lol. Scarlett is just jiggling all over the place. Hence why Megan Fox and the rest are hotter (to me). And while I would go lesbian for them, I would have serious performance anxiety were I to actually sleep with them D: They're tooo beyoootifull!!! The LIGHT! It burnsss ussss....

Also, please la dun be so mean ask your gf to cut her hair like that T____________T 'tis a rare girl who can pull it off and an even rarer Asian girl who can do so. Our features are different, white girls have stronger facial features. I notice you didn't post a pic of any Asian actresses with a pixie cut. T___________T

I am more attracted to voices, so I will watch any animé which stars Hanazawa Kana and/or Mamiko Noto as the seiyuus (voice actors.)

Rewarp is strange. I like his taste. Refreshing.

This post has got to be the most girly post ever, that girls can suddenly relate to and make you gay best friend.

beve: i won't say that disliking megan fox necessarily signifies better taste, and she's certainly not ugly (methinks those guys doth protest too much). and hurry up with the youtube account - i want to see that title sequence! i actually thought this post is pretty male-oriented.

lovealynna: do women really cut their hair according to what they think will attract the most guys? i think the boy or pixie cut is not a common aesthetic and not many men are exposed to it enough to develop a taste for it - the "stand out in a crowd" factor can be quite potent, in my opinion.

Phoebs: natalie portman doesn't look good with short hair, so she can't make this list (but she could totally carry a bald head in v for vendetta).

Liz ^^,: phoebe fell for scarlett johansson after iron man 2 too! i knew about emma watson's new pixie cut, but i think she's suffering from a severe case of un-cute. besides, i can't say i'm a fan of her acting career either - i didn't like the four above purely for their looks, you know :P zac effron and taylor lautner? wow, that's super typical, haha.

Terri: women should always have a bit of jiggle to them, like gemma arterton, but scarlett seriously isn't all that squishy - she's just generously bosomed, and you make it sound like it's a bad thing :P anyway, look at emily browning - her features aren't exactly what one would call "strong". i always thought that there's something oriental about her features. and hey, i do like pixie hair on asian women too! it's just that all of them happen to be japanese porn stars. i'll let you know when i write a list of my favourite adult actresses, mmmkay?

Rewarp: one of my favourite voices is porn star katie morgan's, so i'd pretty much watch any porn flick starring her. i haven't seen enough animes to have favourites, but i thought the blokes who voiced kamina and viral in tengen toppa gurren lagann are pretty awesome, especially after watching this live dub, Gurren Lagann Gekijouban Zenyasai Special - Viral's Sweet Dream

Scarlett did nothing for me until I saw her in the Moet & Chandon ad; Maybe it was her, maybe it was good marketing.

Angelina Jolie and Megan Fox are beautiful too, but don't make the top of my list. They have a very feline.. almost feral look that I don't find appealing.

Rachel McAdams, Natalie Portman, Ben Affleck and Christian Bale.

I'm sure we all know that women don't dress to impress the men - it's really to impress other women. However, that logic is screwed up because I'm not attracted to women, so I shouldn't give a shit what they think about the way I dress. It's what the boys think that matters. Haven't you ever seen those extremely fashionable outfits that girls wanna wear and guys secretly despise? Therefore, why shouldn't I get a haircut according to what guys like?

...

Actually, I like my hair long. It's easier to match outfits. Yeah.

c3rs3i: you read the huffpo? i get what you mean about jolie and fox - they are sort of animalistic (but some would argue it's just their raw animal magnetism). and i like ben affleck the director more than ben affleck the actor.

Alynna: yes! that's what i kept telling phoebs! the clothes, cosmetics, et cetera - their main purpose is to attract mates (which is weird because in the animal kingdom, it's the males which usually do the strutting and displaying). i can imagine having long hair to be quite a bother though, what with the hot weather and maintenance... and long hair is a total drag for the guy when a couple spoons :(

Only the front page - I've found the quality (substance as well as style) of the material beyond that wanting/frustrating.

Nah, I had no unsuperficial reasons for my choices.

I noticed Scarlett's hotness way before that, but man, I think EVERYONE -- male AND female -- were drooling over her in Iron Man 2 !!! xD Maybe it's the leather and crazy red hair :P Well, I said on hotness alone, so yeah, Taylor and Zac. But if we're talking about acting chops too? Hm, Matthew McConaughey (I had a tough time pronouncing his surname for AGES >.<). His got this boyish charm, and this silly surfer-dude look, don't you think? Or maybe I'm just influenced too much by the characters he plays ("How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days" is one of my favs !!! :P). (And that reminds me, I love Kate Hudson. Oh, and definitely definitely Reese Witherspoon :D)
